Avalanche Recalls Defenseman Nikita Prishchepov to Bolster Blue Line
Addition Provides Depth for Injury-Riddled Back End
The Colorado Avalanche have recalled defenseman Nikita Prishchepov from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Colorado Eagles, on an emergency basis to bolster their injury-depleted blue line.
The 23-year-old Russian has recorded 1 goal and 7 assists in 20 games with the Eagles this season and will provide much-needed depth for an Avalanche team that has been hit hard by injuries on the back end.
Injury Woes Force Depth Recall
The Avalanche's blue line has been decimated by injuries, with Erik Johnson, Bowen Byram, and Kurtis MacDermid all currently sidelined. This has forced the team to dress several inexperienced defensemen in recent weeks, including rookie Justin Barron and journeyman Jacob MacDonald.
Prishchepov Brings Experience and Stability
Prishchepov, a 2019 fifth-round pick, has extensive experience in the KHL and is expected to provide some much-needed stability to the Avalanche's defense.
He is a physical presence with good skating ability and a solid defensive game. He is also capable of contributing offensively, having scored 9 goals and 20 assists in 103 career KHL games.
Avalanche Hope for Quick Impact
The Avalanche hope that Prishchepov can make an immediate impact on their blue line. They are currently in a tight race for the Central Division lead and can ill-afford to give up any ground due to defensive breakdowns.
Prishchepov is expected to make his NHL debut on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
