Breaking: SMU Cornerback Rushed To Hospital After Terrifying On-Field Collision

Emergency personnel rushed SMU cornerback Derek Gee

SMU cornerback Derek Gee was rushed to the hospital Saturday evening after sustaining serious injuries in an on-field collision during the team's game against UCF. The incident occurred in the second quarter when Gee attempted to tackle UCF running back Isaiah Bowser. The force of the collision knocked Gee unconscious, and he was immediately surrounded by medical personnel.

Gee was taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital. His condition is being evaluated, but he is reportedly in stable condition.

The SMU football team issued a statement on Twitter saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Derek and his family. We are monitoring his condition closely and will provide updates as they become available."

The game was delayed for several minutes as medical personnel attended to Gee. The crowd at Gerald J. Ford Stadium gave Gee a standing ovation as he was being taken off the field.

Gee is a highly-touted recruit who is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the country. He was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team in 2021 and was expected to be a key contributor for SMU this season.

The SMU football team is currently 1-1 on the season. They will host TCU next Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
