Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin extended his scoring streak to six games with a goal in the team's 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.
Ovechkin's goal came in the second period, giving the Capitals a 2-0 lead. It was his 32nd of the season, moving him within one of Leon Draisaitl for the NHL lead.
The Capitals dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Blue Jackets 33-15. Braden Holtby made 14 saves for the win, while Elvis Merzlikins stopped 29 shots for Columbus.
Kuznetsov and Wilson Also Score
Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson also scored for the Capitals, who have now won three straight games. Kuznetsov's goal came on a power play in the first period, while Wilson's came in the third period to seal the victory.
Blue Jackets Struggle Continues
The loss was the Blue Jackets' fifth in a row, and they have now lost 13 of their last 15 games. Columbus is now just one point ahead of the last-place Ottawa Senators in the NHL standings.
Ovechkin's Scoring Spree Continues
Ovechkin's scoring streak is his longest of the season, and it is the first time he has scored in six straight games since November 2018. He is now just three goals shy of 700 for his career.
Capitals Keep Climbing Standings
The Capitals' win moves them into third place in the Metropolitan Division, just two points behind the first-place New York Islanders. Washington is now 10-5-4 this season, and they are one of the hottest teams in the NHL.
