Capitals Stumble, Losing 4-2 To Resurgent Hurricanes
Early Lead Not Enough to Hold Off Carolina
The Washington Capitals suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat at home to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, marking their second consecutive loss. Despite taking an early lead, the Capitals were unable to maintain their momentum, allowing the Hurricanes to rally back for the victory.
The Capitals got off to a quick start, with Conor Sheary opening the scoring just 2:27 into the game. However, the Hurricanes responded with two goals of their own in the second period, courtesy of Jordan Staal and Seth Jarvis. The Capitals managed to tie the game in the third period with a goal from Evgeny Kuznetsov, but the Hurricanes regained the lead just over a minute later with a goal from Andrei Svechnikov.
The Capitals pulled goalie Darcy Kuemper with just over two minutes remaining in the game in an attempt to tie the score, but the Hurricanes iced the game with an empty-net goal from Martin Necas.
The loss drops the Capitals' record to 10-4-4, while the Hurricanes improve to 11-4-2. The Capitals will look to bounce back on Monday night when they host the St. Louis Blues.
