Flyers' Shutout Bid Broken, Sam Ersson Injured In Loss To Bruins
The Philadelphia Flyers' hopes of a second straight shutout were dashed in the third period on Saturday night, as the Boston Bruins scored twice to earn a 2-1 victory.
Ersson Exits With Lower-Body Injury
The Flyers also suffered a major blow in the loss, as goaltender Sam Ersson was forced to leave the game in the second period with a lower-body injury. Ersson had been outstanding up to that point, stopping all 20 shots he faced.
Backup goaltender Felix Sandström replaced Ersson and made 15 saves on 17 shots.
Bruins Break Through In Third
The Bruins broke the scoreless tie early in the third period when David Pastrnak scored his 10th goal of the season. Brad Marchand added an insurance goal later in the period to seal the victory.
The Flyers had several chances to tie the game late, but they could not solve Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark, who made 26 saves.
Flyers Extend Losing Streak
The loss extended the Flyers' losing streak to four games. They are now 5-5-3 on the season.
The Flyers will return to action on Monday night when they host the Vancouver Canucks. Ersson's status for that game is uncertain.
