Forge FC Triumphs Over Atlético Ottawa In 2024 CPL Playoff Opener (1-0)
Forge Continues Playoff Dominance, Secures Spot In Semi-Finals
Forge FC, the reigning Canadian Premier League (CPL) champions, kicked off their 2024 playoff campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Atlético Ottawa on Wednesday night at Tim Hortons Field.
A Lone Goal Decides The Contest
The lone goal of the match came in the 65th minute, when Forge's Tristan Borges found the back of the net. Tristan slotted home a cross from Aleksandar Vasić to give Forge a well-deserved lead and the eventual win.
Forge Dominates Possession, Ottawa Holds Firm
Forge controlled the majority of the possession throughout the match, but Ottawa's defense held strong for much of the contest. Ottawa goalkeeper Sean Melvin made several impressive saves to keep his team in it, but he could not deny Borges's goal.
Forge Advances, Ottawa's Season Ends
With the win, Forge advances to the semi-finals of the CPL playoffs, where they will face either Pacific FC or York United FC. Atlético Ottawa's season comes to an end, but they can be proud of their efforts in their first CPL campaign.
Forge's Playoff Experience Shows
Forge's victory was a testament to their experience in the CPL playoffs. The Hamilton-based club has now won four of their five playoff matches, including last year's championship victory over Cavalry FC.
