Heartfelt Tributes Pour In As Beloved Calgary Broadcaster, Darrel Janz, Passes Away At 83

Tributes are pouring in for Darrel Janz, a beloved Calgary broadcaster who passed away on Saturday at the age of 83.

A Legendary Voice in Calgary

Darrel Janz was a fixture in the Calgary broadcast community for over 50 years. He began his career at CFCN Radio and later worked at CHQR, 660 News, and Shaw TV. Janz was known for his warm voice, his quick wit, and his deep love for Calgary.

"Darrel was a true Calgary legend," said former colleague and friend Roger Millions. "He had a gift for connecting with people, and he always made time for his listeners and viewers."

A Mentor to Many

Janz was also a mentor to many young broadcasters, including Tom Clark, the current host of 660 News' "Calgary Today."

"Darrel was an incredible mentor to me," said Clark. "He taught me the importance of hard work, dedication, and always putting the listener first."

A Community Icon

In addition to his broadcasting career, Janz was also active in the Calgary community. He was a member of the Rotary Club and volunteered with numerous charities.

"Darrel was a wonderful man who made a significant contribution to our city," said Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek. "He will be deeply missed."

Janz is survived by his wife, Joan, and his children, Brad and Kim.
