Jones Feels 'Light Heavyweight' in UFC 309 Title Bout, Weighs In As Champ

Former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones looks to add another title to his legacy when he takes on Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight strap at UFC 309. Despite moving up a weight class, Jones believes he will be able to maintain his dominance.

Feeling Light Heavyweight

"I feel like I'm a light heavyweight fighting a heavyweight," Jones said at the pre-fight press conference. "I'm not going to put on a bunch of muscle. I'm not going to try to be the biggest guy in the cage. I'm going to use my speed and my technique to win this fight."

Jones has been training with lighter sparring partners to simulate the speed of a light heavyweight opponent. He believes this will give him an advantage over Gane, who is known for his powerful striking.

Weighing In As Champ

Jones stepped on the scales at 242 pounds for the official weigh-in, well below the heavyweight limit of 265 pounds. This is the lightest Jones has weighed for a fight since his 2013 bout against Chael Sonnen.

Despite his lower weight, Jones does not believe it will be a disadvantage. He has always relied on his speed and agility to outmaneuver his opponents, and he expects to do the same against Gane.

The main event of UFC 309 will be a pivotal moment in Jones' career. A victory over Gane would make him the first fighter to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously since Conor McGregor. It would also cement his status as one of the greatest fighters in UFC history.
