Maple Leafs' Night Derailed By Berube's Dominance
Bruins' Goalie Shuts Down Toronto
The Toronto Maple Leafs' hopes of a win against the Boston Bruins were dashed on Tuesday night as Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman turned in another standout performance. Swayman stopped all 35 shots he faced, leading the Bruins to a 4-0 victory.
"He was a brick wall tonight," said Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. "We couldn't get anything past him."
The Maple Leafs were unable to generate much offense against the Bruins' stifling defense. Toronto managed just 15 shots on goal in the first two periods and only 20 overall.
"We weren't able to get enough pucks to the net," said Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews. "We need to do a better job of creating chances."
Jake DeBrusk opened the scoring for the Bruins in the second period, and David Pastrnak added another goal late in the period. Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron each scored in the third period to put the game away.
The Maple Leafs' power play, which had been one of the league's best this season, was held scoreless in five attempts.
"We just couldn't find a way to get it done," said Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner. "We need to be better on the power play."
The loss snapped the Maple Leafs' three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 15-11-7.
Swayman Continues to Impress
Swayman has been a revelation for the Bruins this season. The 23-year-old has a 10-4-1 record with a 1.78 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage.
"He's been our best player all season," said Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy. "He's a big part of our success."
Swayman has been particularly impressive in his last four starts, going 4-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage.
"I'm just trying to do my part to help the team win," said Swayman. "I'm feeling good right now and I'm just trying to keep it going."
The Bruins will next face the New York Rangers on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
