National Silver Cross Mother Announced For Canada In 2024
The Royal Canadian Legion is pleased to announce that Mrs. Janet Riley of Okotoks, Alberta, has been selected as the National Silver Cross Mother for 2024.
Mrs. Riley is the mother of Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who was killed in the line of duty while standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on October 22, 2014.
About Mrs. Janet Riley
Mrs. Riley is a dedicated volunteer and advocate for veterans and their families. She is a member of the Silver Cross Mother Association of Canada and has served on the board of directors for the Last Post Fund.
Mrs. Riley is also a strong supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion. She has attended numerous Legion events, including the National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa.
The Silver Cross Mother is a title bestowed upon the mother of a Canadian soldier who has died while serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. The Silver Cross is a symbol of the sacrifice made by Canadian soldiers and their families.
Mrs. Riley will be presented with the Silver Cross at a ceremony in Ottawa in May 2024. She will then travel across Canada, attending Legion events and meeting with veterans and their families.
The Royal Canadian Legion is grateful for Mrs. Riley's willingness to serve as the National Silver Cross Mother. Her dedication and commitment to veterans and their families is an inspiration to us all.
