NYC Marathon: Nageeye And Chepkirui Triumph With Maiden Victories

The 2022 TCS New York City Marathon was a race to remember, with both the men's and women's races featuring thrilling finishes and impressive performances.

Men's Race: Nageeye's Dream Realized

Dutch runner Abdi Nageeye, who had finished third in the past two editions of the NYC Marathon, finally broke through to claim his first major marathon victory. Nageeye ran a smart and strategic race, staying in the lead pack and biding his time until the final 10k. With a powerful surge, he dropped his competitors and crossed the finish line in 2:05:06, a personal best and the second-fastest time ever run in the NYC Marathon.

Women's Race: Chepkirui's Stunning Upset

In the women's race, Kenya's Sharon Lokedi was the pre-race favorite, but it was her compatriot, Hellen Obiri, who took the early lead. However, in a stunning upset, Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya surged past Obiri in the final miles and claimed the victory in 2:22:39. Jepchirchir's victory was her second major marathon win of the year, having also won the Boston Marathon in April.

A Historic NYC Marathon

The 2022 TCS New York City Marathon was a historic event for several reasons. It was the first time that both the men's and women's races were won by first-time major marathon champions. It was also the first time that an American man, Conner Mantz, finished in the top 10. Overall, the 2022 NYC Marathon was a thrilling and memorable event that showcased the best of the sport of marathon running.
