Canucks' Joshua Leivo Eyes Return Post-Surgery For Cancer
Canucks forward Joshua Leivo is targeting a return to the lineup next week after successfully undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer.
Inspiring Comeback
Leivo's diagnosis and subsequent surgery have been an emotional journey, but he has remained positive throughout. The 28-year-old is eager to get back on the ice and contribute to his team.
"I'm feeling really good," Leivo said. "I'm just taking it day by day and not trying to get too ahead of myself. But I'm definitely excited to get back out there and play some hockey."
Medical Expertise and Support
Leivo underwent a successful thyroidectomy, a procedure to remove the thyroid gland, at the Vancouver General Hospital. He praised the expertise and support he received from the medical team.
"I have nothing but good things to say about the doctors and nurses," Leivo said. "They were amazing and made everything as easy as possible for me."
Cautious Approach
The Canucks are taking a cautious approach with Leivo's return. He has been cleared to skate and participate in non-contact drills, but he will not be rushed back into game action.
"We're not going to put him at risk," head coach Travis Green said. "We want to make sure he's 100% before he steps back on the ice."
Emotional Impact
Leivo's cancer diagnosis and surgery have had a profound impact on himself and his teammates. His courage and resilience have been an inspiration to the team.
"He's a great guy and a great teammate," said forward Elias Pettersson. "We're all behind him and we're going to support him every step of the way."
Leivo's return to the lineup will be a welcome boost for the Canucks, both on and off the ice. His presence will provide a much-needed emotional lift and his experience will be invaluable to a young team.
