Rangers Extend Unbeaten Run to Eight Games
Victory in Sudbury Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive
The Kitchener Rangers extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with a hard-fought 5-3 victory over the Sudbury Wolves on Saturday night at the Sudbury Community Arena.
The Rangers got off to a fast start and took an early lead when Mike Petizian scored just 1:23 into the first period. Sudbury tied the game midway through the period on a power play goal by David Levin, but Kitchener regained the lead late in the period on a goal by Francesco Pinelli.
The second period was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading goals. Joseph Serpa scored for the Rangers, while Blake Murray and Levin tallied for the Wolves.
The Rangers took control of the game in the third period, scoring two unanswered goals to seal the victory. Petizian scored his second of the game midway through the period, and Filip Mešár added an empty-net goal with just over a minute remaining.
The win moves the Rangers to 27-22-7-1 on the season and keeps their playoff hopes alive. They are now just six points behind the eighth-place Erie Otters with 18 games remaining in the regular season.
The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday, February 28th, when they host the Niagara IceDogs.
