NYC Marathon 2024: Susannah Scaroni, Daniel Romanchuk Win Wheelchair Races

Susannah Scaroni Wins Women's Race

American Susannah Scaroni overcame a strong field to win the women's wheelchair race at the 2024 New York City Marathon in a time of 1:42:32. This is Scaroni's second NYC Marathon victory, having previously won in 2022.

Scaroni took the lead early in the race and held it throughout, finishing more than two minutes ahead of second-place finisher Manuela Schär of Switzerland. Schär finished in a time of 1:44:46, while Japan's Tsubasa Kina took third in 1:45:19.

Daniel Romanchuk Wins Men's Race

American Daniel Romanchuk also secured a victory in the men's wheelchair race, finishing in a time of 1:29:22. This is Romanchuk's fourth NYC Marathon title, having previously won in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

Romanchuk faced stiff competition from Great Britain's Johnboy Smith, who finished just 19 seconds behind Romanchuk in a time of 1:29:41. American Josh Cassidy placed third in 1:30:56.

Scaroni and Romanchuk's Accomplishments

Both Scaroni and Romanchuk have achieved remarkable success in wheelchair racing. Scaroni, 34, is a three-time Paralympic medalist and was the silver medalist in the women's wheelchair race at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Romanchuk, 26, is a two-time Paralympic medalist and the reigning Paralympic champion in the men's wheelchair race.

Their victories at the 2024 NYC Marathon underscore their continued dominance in the sport and their status as two of the world's top wheelchair racers.
