Winter Storm Approaches, Prompting Warnings For British Columbia Mountain Passes
British Columbians are being warned to prepare for a winter storm that is expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds to the province's mountain passes.
Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for the following regions:
The storm is expected to hit the province on Tuesday evening and continue into Wednesday. Snowfall accumulations of up to 50 centimetres are possible in some areas, with winds gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour.
The combination of snow and wind is expected to create hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are being urged to avoid travel if possible, and to be prepared for delays if they must drive.
The storm could also cause power outages and other infrastructure damage. Residents are being advised to have an emergency plan in place and to be prepared to be without power for an extended period of time.
