Eagles Gain Ground In Jaguars' Territory Thanks To Baun's Dazzling INT
Baun's Pick Six Helps Eagles Take Control
The Philadelphia Eagles made a statement in their preseason opener, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-21 thanks in large part to a dazzling interception and touchdown return by linebacker Davion Baun.
The Eagles' defense was dominant throughout the game, holding the Jaguars to just 202 yards of total offense. Baun's interception came in the second quarter, when he jumped in front of a pass intended for Jaguars wide receiver Laquon Treadwell. Baun then took the ball back 63 yards for a touchdown, giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead.
Hurts Impresses In Preseason Debut
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts also had a strong performance in his preseason debut, completing 14 of 24 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. Hurts also rushed for 34 yards on five carries.
The Eagles' running game was led by Miles Sanders, who rushed for 57 yards on 11 carries. Boston Scott also contributed 40 yards on eight carries.
Jaguars Showed Fight In Loss
The Jaguars showed some fight in the second half, rallying from a 21-0 deficit to make it a close game. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 14 of 23 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. Running back Travis Etienne rushed for 45 yards on 12 carries.
Areas For Improvement
Despite the win, the Eagles still have some areas they need to improve. The offensive line struggled to protect Hurts at times, and the team committed 10 penalties for 81 yards.
The Jaguars also have some work to do, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The team allowed the Eagles to rush for 177 yards and score three touchdowns.
Looking Ahead
The Eagles will host the Cleveland Browns in their next preseason game on August 21st. The Jaguars will travel to the New Orleans Saints on August 19th.
