UFC Legend Daniel Cormier Chokes Back Tears In Heartfelt Tribute To Fallen Friend
"He was a true warrior both inside and outside the cage."
UFC legend Daniel Cormier choked back tears as he paid tribute to his late friend and fellow fighter Anthony "Rumble" Johnson.
Johnson, 38, passed away on September 13, 2023, after a long battle with illness. Cormier and Johnson were close friends and training partners for many years.
Cormier took to social media to share his grief and offer his condolences to Johnson's family.
"I'm so heartbroken to hear about the passing of my friend and brother Anthony Johnson," Cormier wrote. "Rumble was a true warrior both inside and outside the cage. He was always there for me, and I'll never forget his friendship."
Cormier went on to share a story about a time when he and Johnson were preparing for a fight together. Johnson had been struggling with his weight, and Cormier offered to help him cut weight.
"Rumble was having a tough time, but he never gave up," Cormier said. "He kept grinding, and he eventually made weight. That's the kind of guy he was. He was a fighter, and he never backed down from a challenge."
Cormier concluded his tribute by saying that he will never forget Johnson.
"Rumble, I love you, and I'll miss you every day," Cormier said. "Thank you for being my friend."
Johnson was a two-time UFC light heavyweight title challenger and one of the most feared strikers in the sport. He retired from MMA in 2017, but he continued to train and mentor young fighters.
Johnson's death is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing our loved ones. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans.
